I suppose those were the days where everywhere we went were pretty clean as folks had a higher degree of civic consciousness, putting chewing gum where it belongs instead of being a sidewalk hazard to strollers and joggers. ArchPort Shoes aims to literally take one step at a time by incorporating a cell phone into their shoes sometime down the road, but they are still a long way off from there at the moment. Wouldn’t want you to have chewing gum stuck to your hair now, do we?
At the moment, ArchPort Shoes have managed to include a wallet feature into the range of ArchPort sandals and athletic shoes, where the wallet’s is located in the sole. This concept, according to Matt Potts (founder and president of the company), is “radically innovative” as it offers a comfortable place to carry stuff and valuables without risking theft or robbery. The wallet compartment is actually a removable cartridge that can carry some cash, several credit card-sized items and with enough room to store at least one key. Looking further into the future, the cell phone version will have a fair number of challenges to meet, although current handsets are already pretty capable of handling the impact of everyday walking and running.
Potts won’t stop at just a cell phone shoe though, as the thinks ArchPort has the potential to throw in GPS transceivers, computer data, remote controls, wireless MP3 players, battery modules, heaters and miscellaneous gadgets placed in platform shoes, skateboarding shoes and various types of footwear. I guess I’ll never look at shoes the same way again.

Panasonic is once again at the forefront of cell phone technology with the MIRROR II 824P HSDPA cell phone that is currently available in Japan via SoftBank. The MIRROR II 824P measures 49mm x 107mmx 15.9mm and tips the scales at 118g, and will come in midnight purple, crystal silver, deep pink, champagne gold and ruby red colors. No idea on how much it costs, but you can bet your bottom bowl of ramen noodles that this will remain a Japan-only handset.

NTT DoCoMo has just released its new FOMA SH706i handset, and what makes this different from what you’ve seen so far in the past is the Symbian operating system. This new handset will begin shipping in Japan today, and chances are it won’t function outside of the Land of the Rising Sun. Just in case the FOMA SH706i sounds familiar to certain quarters, that’s because a whole lot of cell phone from Japan do share similar sounding model numbers in addition to the insane amount of features found within. Currently, 3G phones in Japan that are powered by Symbian’s operating system are manufactured by Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Nokia, Sharp, and Sony Ericsson.

after much speculation on what the latest Sidekick device from T-Mobile will be called, the carrier decided to just name it Sidekick, plain and simple. There won’t be any other code name attached to it, bringing us back to the basics. You will be able to choose to fit one out of two shells that come with each Sidekick purchase – black and metallic green. There will also be a wide range of pre-designed shell patterns and colors for you to pick up at T-Mobile retail stores or online, and I’m pretty sure we won’t have to wait for long until someone with an excess amount of Swarovski crystals and super glue decide to bling up their Sidekick. Granted, other luxury labels might also think of blinging this up with diamonds and precious jewels, but that’s another story for another day. 8.1 mega pixel camera!!

The Plica is an interesting concept phone that proves that two touchscreens are better than one. If you haven’t heard of the Plica before, you will, I guarantee it.
So what is a Plica? Technically speaking, a Plica is a zoological term for the folding of a body part. Technologically speaking, the Plica is a conceptual device that has two touchscreens that can fold together like a wallet. This aptly-named device is simple enough to change the cellular phone market forever.
These two touchscreens can work together, which can make the Plica go from phone to mini-computer. Since both screens can work in tandem, this gives the user the opportunity to really surf the net without the narrowed view of the tiny screen on most smartphones. One of the touchscreens can be altered to a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard that looks like it can be used with both hands. It can also do the one screen QWERTY like the iPhone. There is even a camera lens on the other side for some pictures.
The Plica is still in concept phase right now, but someone had better hurry up and make this into reality. This thing could easily give the iPhone a run for its money. I would even go so far to call it a double-i Phone. In other words, I want one of these, and I can’t wait to use it

The new U990 “Viewty” from LG might look a little like the iPhone, but it actually sports some (more impressive) specs that are sure to get you excited.
First off, the phone sports a 5-megapixel, with Image Stabilizer, AF, camera with Schneider Kreuznach optics, a 120fps video camera, 3G HSDPA, 170MB internal memory, a 240 x 400 touchscreen and the obligatory music player.
And besides a nice touchscreen, the aforementioned camera sports a twisting collar around the lens, which doubles as a shuttle dial to get your way through high-speed video footage.
So far this phone is set for a UK release in the Fall and similar or the same product may hit US shelves next year, but there is currently no word on that — just a hope!
